Week 1: Welcome

Welcome to our 2017 Events & the Environment module blog.

This blog will play a vital part of the patchwork assessment model we will be adopting for this module.

Please save this blog and check in weekly.

Firstly a PDF of the slides from this week is on the Moodle.

Secondly your blog task for this week is to leave a comment below outlining in a single sentence what sustainability means to you.

See you next week.

  1. This is Bryony again - I will be posting each week too. Here is my sentence:

Assessing an acts or objects sustainability is an important guide when making decisions in my life, professionally & personally, as I don't want to act irresponsibly with resources or leave a mess for others.

    Look forward to reading yours!

  2. I believe sustainability is a major issue and I think we should all take responsibility for our carbon footprint and start to make improvements on our day to day lives to ensure the existence of life on this planet is not compromised. Although, I have my doubts on whether this can actually be achieved as our society is too greedy and power obsessed to make major changes!

  3. Sustainability is extremely important to me as we share this world with millions of other species of animals that are feeling the full brunt of our actions as a human race yet have no control to stop it. Mankind has a responsibility to ensure the well being not only of these animals, but to one another and to the future generations to come.

  4. Sustainability means to me the preservation and protection of the planet to create a safe, clean and green environment for future generations

  5. Sustainability means to me- just doing what you can to help protect the environment. Recycle, share lifts, turn off lights, don't waste food and water. If everyone and big companies did their piece we would would be a lot more sustainable.

    1. One thing I have bought this week is a chicken fajita wrap, I bought it because I was hungry and needed lunch. Considerations- It was convenient, quick, and cheap. I bought it from Tescos and the materials used were cardboard and plastic.

  6. One thing I bought this week was a DVD from a local game shop. I bought the DVD as the wifi in the house was down and it was a Sunday afternoon. Factors: Only shop in local area that sold DVD's. Convenient and cheap.

  7. One positive impact from the Olympic games is that it provides increased publicity and awareness for cities which host the games (Cleeve et al 2010). This was shown from the London 2012 Olympics as many of the 11 million people who came to the Olympic games have already returned to the park, or to visit Westfield shopping centre. Although, Westfield would have been built without the games, the Olympics did speed the process up, encouraging people to return to the city (Gibson, 2013).
